DGR Attends Derby Ink Invitational/ReverbNation Concert Series - Part II

The Derby Ink Invitational/ReverbNation Concert Series

An epic 3-day high octane arts and entertainment event fueled by a 500+ tattoo-vendor expo featuring over 200 masters of tattoo artistry, a fast paced banked-track roller derby tournament with $20K in cash prizes broadcast live on pay-per-view, unparalleled artistic gallery displays and live hard-core rock bands that will bring the house down.

This is how their adverts read, and to those that were in attendance for the three day event, including yours truly, the above description was a total understatement.

Having been my first roller derby experience, aside from having watched it on the television quite some years ago, I was immediately drawn into the fast paced and exciting world of roller derby.

I have been to my share of Expo's and Conventions in all my years, and I must say that this one was ran very well, seemed to go fairly smoothly and I must give props to all those people that put this together, being their first year, as they did an amazing job. I did speak with one of the coordinators and they actually weren't sure if they were going to have another event next year, when I replied that would be such an injustice.  Once you get all of the hiccups out of the way, things will always run that much smoother.  You are always better off the second year in because you know which mistakes not to make like the inaugural year.

I would suggest that anyone into Roller Derby, Tattooing and Live Bands trek out to Harrisburg PA should be hold their sophomore event as I will be there hands down. We're actually awaiting news of if and when that will be going down so that DarkGift Radio can reserve their vendor table and actually be a part of their next event. Hell, maybe even do a live radio broadcast from the venue, that would be killer.

Everyone we came in contact with was downright nice to all of us and the bands that we saw were kick ass. Props to Scars of Envy of Red Bank NJ and AUG of Wallington, NJ.  Should you want to bookmark their url for news and updates, you can goto DerbyInk.Net for more information.

Thanks again to everyone at Derby Ink Invitational for putting on an awesome event and look forward to next years show.

Good day DGR Nation!

May this blog find you all well and in good spirits.

It brings me sublime pleasure to write here to you all. It also makes me feel blessed and happy to be part of the writing staff here at DarkGift Radio, it is an honour. I aim to write some rockin reviews for bands here and hope it will encourage listeners to check out their music.

So many bands are not heard away from the mainstream reviews and there is so much talent out there to be heard and deserving of support. So, from here on in, stay tuned for some showcasing of awesome artists!

For those who don't know much about me, I am a writer and in a band called Orbitally Re-Arranged Monatomic Elements. I have a love for photography and try to exorcise the demons within through myriad ways of purging through art.

As an artist myself, I realise how difficult it is to get your music out there. Self promotion is not an easy road to travel, nevertheless, we do. This is why I support many artists. It is like a butterfly effect. The more people network and share the word about the talent out there, the more it gets seen/heard. A simple fact that is sometimes forgotten.

So, without further rambling, it is great to part of this exciting project and hope you all enjoy the reviews and articles to come.

Peace to all

Poppy (UK Director of Promotions DGR)

Saturday Blog Update

We just wanted to shoot out yet another update here at DGR Blog Central: We've added all the major social networking links for the station and DJ's along the right side of the blog page for your convenience, as well as some other information. We've also changed around the color scheme to flow a little better with our main station website.

I am very pleased to announce that we've recruited our first member of the writing staff, our very own U.K. Director of Promotions, Poppy Silver will be contributing some music related articles and musical reviews, by bands interested in sending us material for review, when the time in her busy schedule allows. I have asked her to put together a brief post to introduce herself to you all which she should have posted up very soon. We're all very excited to utilize her natural talents as a writer as well as give her a few more very important and vital responsibilities.

Anyone else interested in writing segments, interviews, cd reviews or helping out in any other way can please feel free to contact me so that we can discuss if and how your services can be utilized. We'll be adding a bunch of new content to the streaming server this week as well as some website enhancements as well so please be patient with us during this period of expansion if some links are not yet functioning.  We also have finalized the new t-shirt designs and are awaiting for some freed up capital to get the first run printed up. After that we will be looking into coffee mugs, caps and some bumper stickers. As always, anyone looking to help out with a monetary donation can always hit up our Secured PayPal Donation Link on the main site at www.darkgiftradio.com/donate.html as every little bit helps with the daily expenses and gets us that much closer to getting merchandise out to you guys.  Hope everyone has a kick ass weekend.

DGR Attends Derby Ink Invitational / ReverbNation Concert Series

All of us here at DarkGift Radio just wanted to post a few kind words to all those who put together The Derby Ink Invitational which was held at the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Farm & Expo Center this past weekend, April 19-21st, 2013. We had the extreme pleasure of being in attendance supporting one of our featured artists, The band "AUG", and we all had a blast meeting everyone from the numerous tattoo artists to the roller derby teams and other entertainers on hand for the three day event. We certainly will look forward to attending this event again next year, should they have a follow up expo.

Kudos to everyone involved, you all did an amazing job considering this was your first year.

Musically yours,
